EV charging points needed throughout Co Cavan

Concerns over the lack of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in the county were raised during this week’s meeting of the Cavan-Belturbet Municipal District.

Cllr Brenda Fay highlighted how the expectation by the Government to have one million electric vehicles in operation by 2030 meant that charging points were now necessary throughout Co Cavan.

Those gathered heard how works on a charging point had been initiated in Belturbet about three years ago - at the post office - but that once ancillary works were completed, the project was abandoned and a charging point was never put in place.

“There must be charging points for electric vehicles in every single town in our county,” Cllr Fay added.

“At the moment we have just one charging point in Cavan town and with one million electric vehicles expected to be on the road by 2030, it seems to me that we have a lot of work to do infrastructure wise.”

Cllr John Paul Feely then highlighted the importance of charging points in terms of assisting with the county’s endeavours to reach carbon neutral status for a geopark.
