First sheltered accommodation in Monaghan could be developed in Castleblayney

The fire station has only been vacant for a few months and is said to be 'ideal' for this development.

The first sheltered accommodation for the elderly in Monaghan could be developed in Castleblayney.

At a recent meeting of the Carrickamacross-Castleblayney MD councillors were told that work is on-going by the housing section to evaluate if the former fire station could be used for this purpose.

The executive stated that the vacant building is a ‘prime location’, and funding would be sought if the feasibility study gives the go ahead.

Councillor Colm Carthy says there should be dedicated accommodation like this in every town but this is a positive start:
