Human remains, believed to be one of the disappeared, have been located in a County Monaghan cemetery, and sent for testing.
The remains were discovered following a tip off concerning a plot near where a search was carried out for Joe Lynskey.
The Lynskey family has been informed. The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains has reported that fragments of human remains have been found at a site which was being investigated in relation to the search for Joe Lynskey, in Annyalla Cemetery Co Monaghan.
Information was received by the commission about another small area of interest was examined within the confines of the cemetery.
A commission spokesperson said the information did not relate directly to the disappearance of Joe Lynskey and so until they have a positive identification or the elimination of the remains as those of Joe Lynskey or any of the other of the Disappeared we have to keep an open mind”.
Former monk Joe Lynskey was 40 when he was abducted, murdered and secretly buried by the IRA in 1972.
