St Christopher’s Hospice Home Care in Cavan town has been allocated one million euro in funding by the Department of Health this afternoon.
The North-West Hospice in Sligo is also in receipt of 250,000 under the funding scheme.
The allocations are part of an overall package of €10 million in once-off funding for palliative and end-of-life care which will help to progress national priorities, including increasing access to palliative care services across Ireland.
Cavan Fianna Fail TDs have welcomed the announcement for St Christopher's Hospice.
Deputy Niamh Smyth said the hospice had championed the cause over the years and was very deserving of the funding.
Deputy Brendan Smith, meanwhile, said the funding would be used to develop a new purpose built facility on the site.
He added how glad he was recently to accompany Health Minister Stephen Donnelly to the hospice where he held a very worthwhile meeting with the Committee and HSE staff members.
Deputy Smyth pointed out that great credit was due to the St. Christopher’s Hospice Committee for their years of hard work in providing, what he described, as "a very important facility".
