The Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, has announced over €1.4 million in funding for Local Authorities, including Cavan and Monaghan to carry out biodiversity projects through the Local Biodiversity Action Fund.
A total of almost €48,000 has been granted towards five different projects across county Cavan.
Meanwhile, €47,800 has been granted towards across a total of three projects in County Monaghan.
According to Minister Malcolm Noonan, the funding will go towards restoration, invasive species management, surveys, education and awareness projects:

Monaghan | Wetland Survey | This two-year project will identify wetlands from the Monaghan Wetland Database of 711 sites, on which conservation works to improve biodiversity outcomes and climate mitigation/adaptation can be undertaken, in order to prioritise conservation effort and expenditure. | €25,550 |

Cavan | Wetlands Survey | A data consolidation study was undertaken in 2021 as part of phase 1 of this project. Under Phase II further development of the wetland map will be undertaken in particular to map the extent of the potential wetland undertaken in 2021. A targeted field survey of wetlands in County Cavan will be carried out to build on the preliminary inventory of wetlands compiled during CNWS 2021. | €8,500 |
Cavan | Biodiversity Awareness & Education | Funding was secured through NBAP to undertake a new biodiversity plan for Cavan in 2021. This year's funding will: • promote the launch of the plan through local media, a competition aimed at young people and communities throughout the county. Funding will allow us to undertake a good, sharp, efficient PR campaign. • Commission high quality images for the plan including interaction with biodiversity • Establishment of a Biodiversity Steering Group to oversee implementation of the plan, funding will allow for a facilitator to work with group to establish vision, aims and terms of reference. |

Cavan | Biodiversity Awareness & Education | This Project will undertake a programme of engagement with communities throughout Cavan to raise awareness of biodiversity. Programmes will be inter-generational targeting school children and older people alike.
