Monaghan GAA and Castleblayney Hurling Club are among the organisations to have extended its sympathies.

The funeral of a Co Monaghan man who died in a tragic accident in Carrick-on-Shannon last weekend is taking place around now.

Enda McCarney's funeral mass is taking place at St Mary's Chapel, Urbleshanny, and will be followed by a cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

The Scotstown-native is believed to have entered the water on Sunday morning and a major search got underway throughout Sunday afternoon in the town.

His remains were recovered a few hours later and gardaí are treating it as a tragic accident.

Monaghan GAA and Castleblayney Hurling Club are among the organisations to have extended its sympathies to the Quirke and McCarney families on Enda's passing.
