Fianna Fáil councillor John Paul Feeley has been selected as Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council.
The new appointment was made during Mondays 's sitting of Cavan County Council.
While Fine Gael's Winston Bennett has been appointed as Leas-Cathaoirleach by his fellow elected council members. The West Cavan man says it's a great honour to become the first citizen of the county for the year ahead. It's the second time that the Fianna Fail councillor has been the Cathaoirleach of the local authority.
Cllr Feeley said the people who voted for him 12 months ago are the ones that have allowed him to be in this position. He says he is looking forward to a great year ahead in the role.
