The Presidential election is to be set for October 24th.
It comes as Heather Humphreys has been chosen as the candidate for Fine Gael. The nominating process closed at midday, with Ms. Humphreys the sole candidate remaining.
MEP Sean Kelly pulled out of the process yesterday after he did not receive enough support to create an internal contest.
Heather Humphreys issued a statement earlier, she paid tribute to Seán Kelly who she described as a gentleman and a talented and dedicated public representative.
She said her campaign will focus on her life experience adding that she will be asking citizens to trust her with their vote to be President of this great country.
The former Cavan Monaghan TD said she will be a candidate with a vision; with experience and with a track record of supporting communities; bringing people together and representing Ireland on the world stage.
Fine Gael TD for Cavan/Monaghan, David Maxwell believes Ms Humphreys has the energy to make a wonderful President.
Local Fine Gael councillor and neighbour of Heather Humphreys says her bid is great news for the area.
