Heather Humphreys would be a 'force for unity' as president

Cllr Sean Gilliland says Heather Humphreys has the finger on the pulse.

The next few hours should offer clarity surrounding former Minister Heather Humphreys' presidential bid.

The former Cavan-Monaghan TD is expected to put her name forward for a tilt at the Aras.

Fine Gael's executive council will meet at 7.30pm this evening to consider their candidate options, with MEP Sean Kelly also under consideration. Senator O'Reilly says Heather Humphreys would bring so much to the role, adding that she would be a force for unity on the island of Ireland.

A new poll shows Ms. Humphreys narrowly ahead of Independent TD Catherine Connolly as the public's preferred candidate.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Fionnan Sheehan from the Irish Independent said there's a "fair wind behind her".
