Fine Gael TD Deputy David Maxwell has welcomed the news that former Minister Heather Humphreys will seek the Fine Gael nomination to become the next President of Ireland.
Deputy Maxwell says I'm delighted that Heather Humphreys has confirmed her intention to seek the Fine Gael nomination as our candidate for President of Ireland.
He said we are fortunate to have two strong, accomplished, and capable candidates emerging and i wish both Sean Kelly and Heather Humphreys the very best. Deputy Maxwell confirmed to Northern Sound today that he will be supporting Ms Humphreys in the upcoming selection process.
Speaking to the Wider View programme, the Cavan Monaghan TD says he'll be voting for Heather Humphreys.
He said she is someone he has worked closely with over the last 20-years and someone he has always admired. "Heather has been a strong advocate for children, pensioners, carers, people with disabilities, volunteers, and for community groups right across the country."
Deputy Maxwell says his support is with the Co Monaghan woman, "Heather's warmth, compassion, and authenticity as a leader set her apart. I firmly believe she would make a brilliant and unifying President for all the people of Ireland."
