Cavan County Council has announced the launch of funding under Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme.
The scheme is a strategic initiative aimed at empowering local community groups to take meaningful climate action.
In partnership with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, this programme aims to build low-carbon, sustainable communities across the county.
With a funding allocation of €439,000 under Strand 1: Building Low Carbon Communities, the programme enables not-for-profit community groups to implement projects that directly address climate challenges. These projects can span across five key themes: Community Energy, Travel, Food & Waste, Shopping & Recycling and Local Climate & Environmental Action. Applications will remain open until 12 noon on Tuesday, 23rd December 2025.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley, is encouraging groups to get involved, saying: “Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme offers an exciting opportunity for local groups to turn climate ambition into action. With funding available, now is the time for communities to come forward with innovative ideas that will make a lasting impact on our environment and quality of life.”
Eoin Doyle, Chief Executive, Cavan County Council, added “Climate Action begins at the community level, and this programme of funding reflects our commitment to supporting local leadership in building a more sustainable future. By investing in grassroots initiatives, we are not only addressing environmental challenges but also strengthening the climate resilience of our communities across Cavan. "This initiative is part of a broader national effort to meet Ireland’s climate targets, including a 51% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. This programme builds on the success of Phase 1, which supported 22 diverse, community-led projects across Cavan."
Applications will be via the Submit online application portal, which will be available via the Council’s website alongside information on how to apply, eligibility and examples of previously funded projects at www.cavancoco.ie/CCAF25
