Local Council passes motion calling for a review into the cost of connections to Irish Water networks

Cavan County Council has passed a motion calling for the Commission for Regulation of Utilities to review its policy for connections to Irish Water networks.

The motion was brought forth by Fianna Fáil councillor John Paul Feeley, who says many people face "exorbitant fees" for these connections.

While Councillor Feeley noted that charges for "standard connections" are reasonable, he says the "vast majority of applications are not within these narrow parameters".

His motion also seeks to create "competition" in the appointment of contractors, as Irish Water currently appoints contractors for these works.

He told Shannonside Northern Sound that Irish Water is "working to the detriment of many of our towns and villages":
