A local councillor believes the Virginia Bypass will not be completed until at least 2040.
That's according to Cllr Shane P O'Reilly, who says he hopes he is wrong but he said he needs to be realistic. He said the date of 2031 was given but the local independent councillor belives this date is not possible.
The Mullagh native also highlighted once again the level of traffic now using routes in the area in an effort to avoid the rat race that is Virginia, adding that's it's become a very serious situation.
Cllr O'Reilly said following a number of reports to him from locals living in the area, he has made contact with the Gardai in an effort for them to increase speed checks in the area.
The Co Cavan councillor says we have to be very honest with the people of the region over how long the much needed bypass will take.
