A local councillor says a nationwide waste audit needs to be done on every household.
Independent Cavan councillor Shane P. O’Reilly was responding to news that a bill is currently being introduced in the Seanad to address illegal dumping.
Fianna Fáil says its bill, allowing CCTV and drones, will help councils who have exhausted all other avenues.

Councillor O’Reilly says it is costing the local authorities in both Cavan and Monaghan thousands every year and members of Cavan County council had previously called for measures like this to be introduced by Government.
However, he says that in order for this to be effective there needs to be proper sanctions that deter people and support from the judiciary:
