Local councillors have been paying tribute to a Carrickmacross woman and Monaghan County Council staff member who died suddenly last month.

Helen Martin is predeceased by her husband, Garda Adrian Martin, who died during a family holiday in 2011 when he fell from a cliff edge in Co Clare.

At a recent Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD meeting, Councillor Colm Carthy said Adrian's death "sent shockwaves through the town", and added that news of Helen's passing "has dumbfounded and saddened" Carrickmacross.
