Local election hopeful, Nathan Galligan is encouraging people to reach out to those who are most vulnerable in communities.

A local candidate in the upcoming elections is appealing to people across the region to reach out to the elderly in your community. Nathan Galligan who is contesting next month's local elections for Fianna
Fail in the Ballyjamesduff Municipal District has issued the appeal. It follows the Crosserlough native knocking on doors canvasing and realising that so many older people in the region live in rural homes and may not see anyone else for days. Nathan comes from a farming background and is a local GAA player also.

It's his first time contesting a local election as he tries to hold on to the party's seat that is set to be vacated by Cllr Craig Lovett following his decision not to run this time around. The young Co Cavan man says if you find yourself with a spare hour, call in and make contact with your neighbors.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Nathan said; "To your listeners I want to say one thing. I've noticed from canvassing at the doors of senior citizens' that they are very humble and mad to chat. For anyone who has a spare hour I would encourage them to call with their elderly neighbors because some of them are very lonely when they are own their own and I've found when canvassing those who live alone are mad to talk and it's important for family members and relatives to keep in touch."
