A Co Cavan funeral undertaker is warning of a new scam purporting to livestream funerals on social media.
People are being asked to provide their bank details for the fake streaming online service.
Colm Kieran of Kieran Brothers Funeral Directors in Kingscourt is highlighting the scam, to ensure that the bereaved don't fall for this scam. The local funeral director is also using this opportunity to remind people to obey reposing times and respect the wishes of the family at such a vulnerable time.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show earlier, Colm said people are being targeted by Facebook pages that are purporting to stream funerals and funeral services and are looking for card details in a way they can betray to charge people for the service but in fact this is a scam and it is just criminals trying to get access to your banking details.
Mr Kieran says it is very important that listeners are aware that these pages are fake. He says that no funeral business or no streaming service ever looks for money for streaming a funeral service.
