Local Garda urges young people to stay safe on farms

Garda Stevens is reminding all machinery owners and operators that if you are putting a tractor on a public road, ensure that the driver is fully licensed and insured to be there.

Garda Lisa Steven of Bailieboro Garda Station is appealing to young people on farm machinery to be cautious as the summer holidays get underway and farming takes centre stage for many.

Garda Stevens is reminding all machinery owners and operators that if you are putting a tractor on a public road, ensure that the driver is fully licensed and insured to be there.

She's urging drivers to be capable of drawing the machinery behind them and that they show courtesy on the roads during what can be a very busy time.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Stevens said saving hay and silage to fit in with the weather forecast can see an increase in farming machinery on our roads.

Garda Stevens called for all other road users to be aware of this and plan any journey to allow for delays behind such machinery.

When school returns, Gardai want to see every young person there to take their seat and therefore safety guidelines must be adhered to at all times this summer.
