Local minister says 2027 budget will offer 'continued support'

Minister Smyth said competitiveness is hugely important.

Local minister  Niamh Smyth believes October's budget will offer continued support to people.

Government this week released its summer statement with an expected package of around €8.5 billion to play with.

Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Smyth said Budget 2027 will be focused on building on the resilience of this country and ensuring that the economic buoyancy across Ireland continues.

The Cavan-Monaghan TD said that in reality, we're in a world where there's huge geo political uncertainty, particularly with what's going on in the gulf and that has an  impact on Ireland.

She said it will try and give a fair and balanced budget and rewarding hard working people will be a priority, but not at the expense of anyone else.

Minister Smyth said we've seen massive increases in welfare payments over the last number of years, and those working might argue that they haven't been looked after as well:
