Minister Humphreys criticised comments made this week by Sinn Fein.

Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys says both the Justice Minister and the Garda Commissioner have the full support of the Government. Her comments are in response to Sinn Fein who says it's considering a vote of no confidence in Helen McEntee following last Thursday's riots in Dublin. Speaking in the Dial this week, Minister Humphreys described the scenes in Dublin last Thursday as "shocking" however slammed criticisms made by Sinn Fein. According to the local Minister, at a time when unity was needed Sinn Fein instead "played politics."

Minister Humphreys stated that she "trusts" members of An Garda Síochána to do their jobs and keep our streets safe. She also reiterated her trust and confidence in Justice Minister Helen McEntee. "I trust our Gardaí to look after our citizens. Under this Government and Minister Helen McEntee, there are 800 new Gardaí recruits coming on board this year and every class coming through Templemore is bigger than the last one," explained Minister Humphreys.

“Crime in our society is changing, whether its body cams, facial recognition, water cannons, and technology or dog units - this Government will act and give Gardaí the tools they need to do their jobs and keep our streets safe. That’s their job and I trust them to do it, and do it well and once more I trust Minister for Justice Helen McEntee."
