Concerns have been raised locally about the programme for government that was agreed to by the parliamentary parties late last night.

The parliamentary parties of Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Greens endorsed the deal, which will now be put to their members to see if they will agree to it, with votes taking place over the next week and a half.

Fianna Fáil Councillor John Paul Feeley, a critic of Michael Martin’s following the recent general election, said that he wanted to place on the record his complete opposition to the proposal.

He is a member of Fairer Future – a group of over 50 Fianna Fáil councillors who are opposed to the programme for government.

But Brendan Smith, chairperson of Fianna Fail’s Parliamentary party, said the overwhelming view of the party was to adopt what he called an “ambitious programme”.

Meanwhile, Julie O’Donoghue, the Green Party candidate in Roscommon-Galway during February’s General Election, said she has “massive reservations” about the deal.

She said the vagueness of the programme was concerning:

Elsewhere, Sandra McIntyre, a Fine Gael candidate in Cavan-Monaghan during the recent general election, said she was disappointed that young people had been left behind in the programme for government.
