A local senator believes the drop in cancer screening will lead to increased numbers of deaths.
The numbers of women being screened for breast and cervical cancers have dropped.
It was revealed this week that the national screening service has missed its targets for two years in a row.
The drop in numbers was confirmed in a PQ by Aontú. Senator Sarah O' Reilly says the national figures that are coming out again and again about our health care services are more and more shocking.
She says the collapse in cancer screening will undoubtedly lead to increased incidents of cancer, advanced cancers and deaths. In 2019, 170,957 women were screened last year that number had fallen to 137,134. Senator O' Reilly says the figures are deeply disappointing.
