And the sanctions imposed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine is pushing more and more people into the poverty trap.
But Cavan-Monaghan Senator, Joe O'Reilly - who was speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound this week - says Ireland has been ahead of other countries in terms of its response to inflation.

He added, however, that further measures are needed to help people out.
But he also concurred, those measures will require and EU wide effort to become a reality.
