A local TD has been discussing the need to progress Cavan Institute into the future.
Deputy Brendan Smith raised the issue with the Minister for Further and Higher Education, James Lawless this week.
The Fianna Fáil TD said he is anxious to have a major extension to the existing college constructed on Cathedral Road, in the centre of the town.
Deputy Smith also raised the need for futher collaboration between further education institutions across the border.
Speaking in the Dáil, he outlined the impact a collaboration between DKIT and Queen's would have for the border region.
