Arlene Foster was ousted as leader following a revolt within the DUP.

A local TD says he was "surprised" and "taken aback" at the speed of the heave against Arlene Foster.

While Brendan Smith acknowledged that he had been aware of "rumblings of discontent" for some months, he didn't think it would gather the momentum it did.

Arlene Foster will leave her role as leader of the DUP on the 28th of May - and as First Minister at the end of June - following a revolt within her party.

Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, the Fianna Fáil TD said it's vital that the next DUP leader upholds the Good Friday Agreement:
