Monaghan Fire and Rescue have issued a warning relating to costume safety ahead of Halloween.
The group is warning some costumes are classified as toys and therefore are not required to meet the same fire safety standards as clothes.
People are being warned to check a costume has a genuine CE safety mark and comes from a genuine website.
Other warnings include, being wary of naked flames, hairspray flammability and to avoid wearing dark costumes that would it make it difficult for drivers to see a child.
Avoid masks and costumes that will obstruct a child's vision.
Monaghan Fire and Rescue is also advising caution when it comes to using decorations that need to be plugged in, as well as using battery operated candles as opposed to real candles.
