A Co Monaghan resident has appealed to locals to be cautious and aware of the dangers of swimming at lakes and rivers in the region.
Dzintra McConnon from Emyvale along with Johnny McConnell saved a 16-year-old teenager who got into difficulty while swimming at Emy Lough last month.
He was then airlifted to the Mater Hospital, Dublin at the time, where a complete recovery was expected thanks to the actions of the two locals.
Dzintra who is an experienced swimmer says people need to be fully aware of the dangers that water can pose.
She said things can change in a split second when it comes to making the most of a hot spell at waterways. Dzintra is a member of Civil Defence and the Emy Dippers swimming club.
She outlined when she noticed the teenager who had gone under the water.
