Local youth work director says online safety legislation 'overdue'

The legal age for someone to be online is 13 and this is often forgotten.

The director of Youth Work Ireland for Cavan/Monaghan says education is still the key when it comes to digital health.

Caolán Faux was responding to reports yesterday that the process was underway to recruit an Online Safety Commissioner.

While he says that such legislation is long overdue, he feels that often legislation and reality often don't align.

Caolán says that many parents aren't informed on how to use modern apps making any kind of supervision difficult, and that young people should be taught how to use media in a healthy and beneficial way in the first instance:
