The trial was expected to take 12 weeks.

The trial of the four men accused of the false imprisonment and assault of Kevin Lunney could be concluded before the Court's summer break.

The trial began at the end of May and was expected to pause at the end of July, before resuming in September.

However, swift progress has been made through evidence and it could now conclude by the end of this month.

The three judge Special Criminal Court yesterday decided to allow mobile phone and CCTV evidence to be included.

The defence teams challenged the admissibility of it on the grounds that it breached their clients' rights to privacy.

They also argued that the general retention of phone data by service providers is unlawful and claimed Gardaí shouldn't have been allowed to access it.
