€7 million has been announced for the redevelopment of St Louis Convent chapel.
It follows the local authority purchasing the site in Monaghan Town in 2024.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne announced €90 million in funding which has been awarded to local authorities through THRIVE - the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme. The funding stream targets tackling vacancy and dereliction and the long term protection of our heritage assets.
The projects announced are expected to start in late 2025 and will deliver long-lasting benefits for the local communities. Senator Robbie Gallagher says that the news of a €7 million investment towards the transformation of the former chapel and the public realm encompassed within the convent grounds will be a game changer for Monaghan town.
