Several new Classrooms, a replacement Sports Hall and the new Outdoor Play facilities are part of the upgraded works carried out.

Major upgrade works have been unveiled at Scoil Mhuire in Clontibret following an official opening of the new look school on Friday by local Minister Heather Humphreys.

Several new Classrooms, a replacement Sports Hall and the new Outdoor Play facilities are part of the upgraded works carried out at the Co Monaghan School.

A Wellbeing Area and Sensory Garden along with play areas and a new staff room are also part of the additional accommodation at the local school.  At present 194 pupils are enrolled at the local national school along with 14 teachers, 8 SNAs, 2 bus escorts and 2 ancillary staff.

Minister Humphreys said that the new extension and its state of the art facilities are wonderful supports for educational development and will be there for many years to come.

She added that the facilities will allow for more space and better equipment to support local children on their learning journeys.

The local Minister said it was great to be in position to officially open the wonderful school which is a credit not only to the students but indeed the wider school community.

"I want to say a huge thank you to school Principal Ms Elizabeth Moorehead and the chairperson of the Board of Management, Cathal McGlone for the very kind invitation to be here with you today and can I say a special word about you Cathal - because you have given 16 years of service as a member of the Board of Management here."

"And you, along with Ms Moorehead and many others, really have played a huge part in making this school community a better place for students and staff alike. I also want to acknowledge and express my sincere appreciation to the members of the Board of Management, Bishop Lawrence Duffy, Monsignor Shane McCaughey and the wider school community who have all played their part in making today happen."
