Man pretending to be a Garda takes substantial sum of money from elderly woman in Ballyjamesduff

Gardai in County Cavan have appealed for information in relation to a man pretending to be a member of An Garda Síochána.

The well-dressed man produced what looked like a Garda I.D. at the home of an elderly woman in the New Inns area of Ballyjamesduff on Thursday morning.

This man claimed there had a robbery in the area and showed the lady money and asked if it was hers.

The injured party went to check her money and the suspect followed her into the house.

A substantial sum of money was taken and he left the scene in what was described as a blue car.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious on Thursday morning or was in that area and may have dash cam footage to contact Bailieboro Garda Station on 042 9694570
