It was one of three fatal drowning incidents in the local area this week.

The man who died in a drowning incident in Leitrim on Wednesday named locally as Monaghan native.

Michael Hoey from Carrickmacross, who was in his 70s, passed away after he failed to return to the surface while snorkelling at Lough Allen.

His body was recovered from the water a short time later by local emergency services, and his body was removed to Sligo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

He's survived by his wife and five children.

It was one of three fatal drowning incidents in the Cavan and Leitrim area this week.
