The route was delayed by two hours because of the incident.

A Co Cavan woman arrived home two hours late after an altercation on the 109X Dublin Cavan Bus Eireann service between two men on board forced a diversion and delay.

The incident which happened on the 7:15pm service on the 28th of September last, caused the driver to stop the bus on the Dublin side of Navan and order the two men off. They refused and the driver called the Gardaí, however after one hour of waiting for them to arrive, the bus driver drove to Navan Garda Station where two Gardaí dealt with the men.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Sharon said that once the bus moved on, passengers arrived in Cavan close to 11pm - two hours later than scheduled. She added that it was a "frightening" incident for those on board the bus but highlighted the professional manner in which the driver deal with matters.

"No way were they getting off the bus - one in particular, the other man would have agreed to get off but the other one dug his heels in and there was no way he was getting off the bus," continued Sharon. "Hopefully it's a one-off thing and it doesn't occur on a regular basis

"Passengers were relieved when the Gardaí dealt with the matter in Navan. The man that dug his heels in insisted he had done nothing wrong despite the melee they were in." Meanwhile, in a statement to Shannonside Northern Sound, Bus Éireann said it was "most disappointing" to hear of events that occurred on the Route 109X.

The company pointed out that it treats all complaints very seriously and responds to them in a timely manner. A spokesperson highlighted that while overall, Bus Éireann has very few reported incidents of anti-social behaviour, it does not tolerate any act of antisocial behaviour towards its staff, customers or property.
