The road remains closed this afternoon, as a forensic examination of the scene takes place.

Minister for Rural Development, Heather Humphreys, says last night's road traffic collision involving a tractor in Co Cavan highlights the dangers of farming. A teenage girl died on the L2514 at Loughduff when the tractor she was travelling in collided with a ditch.

The road remains closed this afternoon as a forensic examination of the scene takes place. The teenager's body has been removed to Cavan General Hospital, while the teenage boy driving the tractor was uninjured.

Minister Humphreys has described what happened as a tragedy. "First of all can I just extend my sympathies to the family involved. In fact, I know some of the family members.

"It really is heart breaking when you hear that a young girl comes over from England on her holidays and is involved in a farm accident. It just goes to show you how dangerous it can be on the farm and we need to be aware of the dangers that are out there," she added.
