The income threshold for accessing social housing will rise by 5,000 euro next year, under plans before Cabinet this morning.

Government Ministers are also expected to approve legislation that would see an opt-out organ donation system introduced.

The Human Tissue Bill would assume consent for organ donation unless someone opts out while alive or next of kin object to the removal.

Those on long term illness benefits are likely to get a Christmas bonus while 100 million euro is set to go to schools, to help deal with the cost of living crisis.

Finally plans for combating unfair trading in the agri-sector are also in the works, with a regulator set to be appointed.

Fines of up to 10 million will be levied against businesses found delaying payments to farmers or issuing unfair contract changes.
