Monaghan actress pays personal tribute to Sinead O'Connor

Sinead O'Connor is being remembered around the world following her untimely death at 56 yesterday.

Tydavnet actor and model, Caitríona Balfe has revealed how Sinead O'Connor made a return to music recently to record the theme tune of the hit show in which Ms Balfe stars.

The model turned actor plays a leading role in The Outlander which, is now into its seventh series. Following the death of her beloved 17-yr-old son Shane just 18 months ago, Sinead O'Connor had said she would never sing or perform in public again.

Ms Balfe, however, has revealed Sinead O'Connor sings the show's haunting theme tune in series 7, admitting the singer's rendition "reduced her to tears" when she first heard it.

As Sinead O'Connor is being remembered around the world following her untimely death at 56 yesterday, Ms Balfe reacted to the Irish singer/songwriter's passing on Twitter saying that she hoped the singer was at peace and thanked her for sharing her incredible voice and beautiful soul with the nation.

The model-turned-actor said growing up in Monaghan she wanted to emulate Sinead O'Connor, wearing docs and having her head shaved but wished she had the courage to speak truth to power as Sinead O'Connor did.
