The Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, PJ O'Hanlon believes that more funding needs to be given to County Councils.
He said that in central Europe more decisions are made by local government, compared to Ireland.
The cathaoirleach called for the government to get rid of "centralised control" in Dublin.
He believes that local people should be given more power to make decisions about what goes on in their area.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr. O'Hanlon said that all funding for local councils in Ireland comes from central government.
