Monaghan County Council has confirmed it is "suspending" its contract with consultants for the N2 Clontibret to the Border scheme.
Senior engineer Gareth McMahon told a recent County Council meeting that because no allocation had been made to the scheme, the contract with the design team is suspended.
The N2 Clontibret to the Border scheme was one of a number of projects to be stalled by the TII in January.
At a February meeting with local Minister Heather Humphreys, Monaghan councillors were told it would cost around €3 million to complete the phase 3 design process this year or in 2023.
It was warned that an extended delay will increase costs and may require some work to be repeated.
At that February meeting with Minister Humphreys, and at an April meeting of the County Council, a request was made to secure this money from the Shared Island Fund.
At the most recent County Council meeting, Director of Finance, John Murray, said the Executive Team had asked for this, but had received no response to date.
Councillor Brian McKenna requested that a further letter be sent asking for funding to allow the road project to continue.
Meanwhile, Councillor PJ O'Hanlon asked why the Council is re-sending a letter, when a response is still being awaited for one sent a month ago.
He further asked if anyone on the Executive Team "could pick up the phone and say hello?"
