Monaghan County Council has joined a cross-border project that will help prevent wildfires on Sliabh Beagh. The Collaborative Action for the Natura Network Project

Monaghan County Council has joined a cross-border project that will help prevent wildfires on Sliabh Beagh.

The Collaborative Action for the Natura Network Project is funded by the EU's INTERREG Programme.

It commissions wildfire experts from across Europe to develop a Wildfire Management Plan and will enable the community to learn about "flashpoints" in the area.

In 2017, around a third of the special area of conservation on Sliabh Beagh was burned in a single wildfire.

Rory Sheehan is the Sliabh Beagh site co-ordinator for the CANN project and he explained how the public can assist with the Wildfire Management Plan:
