Monaghan fire chief calls for 'vigilance' as temperatures soar

Mr Brannigan has advised people to be "mindful" of the dangers around lighting fires in public spaces.

The need for vigilance towards fire safety during warm weather cannot be overstated.

That's according to Monaghan's Chief Fire Officer Dermot Brannigan.

A high temperature warning remains in place here with highs of 28 degrees expected today.

A status yellow high temperature warning for the entire country continues until Friday morning, with highs of 30 degrees forecast tomorrow.

Mr Brannigan has advised people to be "mindful" of the dangers around lighting fires in public spaces, as this good spell of weather looks set to continue.

According to the Chief Fire Officer, people must use picnic facilities "safely" when barbecuing, particularly in local parks and forest trails.
