A Monaghan GP is criticising people who are "deliberately deciding to ignore" advice for close contacts.

It comes as more than one-in-four people who got tested in the county last week were Covid positive.

Monaghan has the highest seven and fourteen day incidence rates in the country, more than twice the national average.

Cavan has overtaken Donegal to have the second highest 7-day rate.

Over 3,800 walk-in Covid tests were carried out in Monaghan and Cavan last week, with positivity rates of 27 per cent and 22 per cent respectively.

Speaking on The Joe Finnegan Show, Dr Illona Duffy said not everyone is restricting their movements when they should be.
