Monaghan's Dan Curley has been elected as the new National Chair of the National Association of Regional Game Councils (NARGC). NARGC is the leading voice of Ireland's field sports and rural pursuits sector, representing over 25,000 members nationwide. NARGC is also Ireland’s largest bird conservation organisation with NARGC members investing over €1 million every year in conservation efforts around Ireland.
Commenting on his election as new NARGC Chair, Dan Curley said he wants to ensure that rural interests are listened to by the new Government; "I am honoured to be elected as NARGC Chair and I look forward to representing our 25,000 as we intensify our engagement with the new Government on key rural issues. With Ministers now in place, we need to see a rural reset. Over recent years, rural groups such as NARGC have not had a voice at the table, because the table simply wasn't there.
"The delay by the NPWS in setting up the new Stakeholder Forum and the mothballing of the Firearms Consultative Panel meant rural group were denied a voice in dealing with Government on policy issues affecting our members. I am calling on the new Nature Minister Christopher O'Sullivan and the new Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan to move quickly to right these wrongs; to set-up these fora, and to give a voice back to rural Ireland."
