Monaghan man says search to get onto housing waiting list 'is a dark hole'

A Monaghan man says his search to get onto a housing waiting list "is a dark hole" without any light.

Jake and his wife had to leave their rented accommodation after losing their jobs recently, and they're now living separately with other family as they try to get a new house.

Jake says they applied to be placed on the waiting list for a home, but were refused because they earned too much in the last twelve months.

In a statement, Monaghan County Council said it can't comment on individual cases, but all applications are assessed in accordance with social housing assessment regulations.

Jake told The Joe Finnegan Show that they just want to get a place of their own.
