A Co Monaghan mother who lost her son to suicide is encouraging people to reach out and avail of the help that is out there.
On the 30th of July 2023, the lives of Siobhan O'Sullivan and her close knit family changed forever.
Her son, Ben Lamb O'Sullivan was only 34 years of age when he lost his life to suicide.
Three years on from her son's passing, Siobhan said it's now extremely important for her to help others.
Siobhan praised her local SOSAD service, after she herself received support from her local branch in the aftermath of her eldest son's death.
In memory of Ben and to help raise funds for SOSAD Monaghan, the annual Midsummer's Day event will take place tomorrow.
Locals are encouraged to get outside for your mental health and take part in either a 5k run or 2.5k walk at Rossmore Park at 7:30pm.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Siobhan has encouraged people to come out and support this important fundraising initiative.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Siobhan also highlighted the importance of reaching out and availing of the SOSAD service if you need to.
"Ben had two masters and he loved education. He was the hardest worker and always wanted to do well. He also loved his music and going to college and was only after completing his PHD. We certainly did not see this coming.
"Nobody ever wants to be in my shoes or the shoes of anyone else in my family. You just need to pick up the phone or call into the SOSAD Monaghan branch or any local branch because they're so friendly and welcoming.
"Now I can say three years later that they couldn't do enough for you, although there is a lot of pain to go through by going. My counselling was every Tuesday and it became my favourite day of the week. We are the ones who are blessed to have this vital service in Monaghan and I would encourage anyone who needs help or support to avail of this amazing service."
