A Monaghan priest says moving sacrament preparations out of school could link the parish to the family home.

It comes as the Association of Catholic Priests says children should be taught about Communion and Confirmation outside of class time.

They say the meaning of the celebrations are being lost because some children won't be in a church again.

Fr Stephen Duffy is a priest in Castleblayney and says there's always been a relationship between the Church and the school.

But he told Shannonside Northern Sound that it could be time for a change.
