Cavan Monaghan TD, Niamh Smyth "welcomed" the announcement.

The Minister for Education, Norma Foley, has approved the construction of new accommodation at a Monaghan primary school.

Scoil Naomh Padraig in Oram has been given the green light to move to construction stage under the Additional School Accommodation Scheme.

The school was last extended and modernised between 2008 and 2010 and a new library, general purpose hall, learning support room, extended classrooms, and an office were constructed.

Meanwhile, Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD Niamh Smyth, congratulated the principal, staff and school board of management on their achievement.

She added there would be "great days ahead" for the staff and pupils of Oram national school.
