A Monaghan woman has been leading a schools rugby team to a historic win.
Edwina McNulty, originally from Carrickmacross, moved to Leitrim following the offer of a job.
Recently she coached the Carrick-on-Shannon Community School to their first ever Connacht Rugby Schools title success.
Edwina took on the role, despite having no experience playing rugby herself.
She didn't dream when she took over that the team would experience such a success.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, she said her interest in rugby came more from watching than participating: "I never lifted a rugby ball until I started training. I've absolutely no background in it but the opportunity came up to take over a team that was already set up by Maria Brown, she was the chaplain in the school and she saw the opportunity in conjunction with the local club which is probably one of the strongest and fastest growing clubs in Connaught.
"She set it up just as an opportunity for people to play rugby about six years ago. Maria retired three years ago and was worried about the team so I said I would takeover, not realising where it would lead. I had to hit the ground run and learn as I went along."
