A new book has revealed the important role both Cavan and Monaghan played in developing telecommunications not just in Ireland but across the globe.
'Connecting A Nation' by Deryck Fay tells the tale of how Ireland's first fax machine was installed in 1947 to receive pictures of that year's All-Ireland Final between Kerry and Cavan played in New York.
The book also exposes the legal battle between Carrickmacross native Henry O'Reilly and one of the world's most renowned inventors, Samuel Morse.
Speaking on today's Wider View, author Deryck Fay revealed how at that time, Henry O'Reilly had also invented a telegraph system different to that of Samuel Morse.
While the two went to war over a patent battle which captured the eye of the media, it was in fact the Morse Code inventor who emerged victorious:
