A new health care hub to manage chronic diseases is to be established in Cavan Monaghan.
While the facility will be based at Cavan General Hospital, a service will also be provided at Monaghan Hospital.
The old ambulance base at the entrance to the health facility has been earmarked.
Refurbishment works are expected to begin in September to house the service that will be consultant led.
Senator Robbie Gallagher says people affected will now be able to access care locally instead of having to travel.
"This service will be delivered in the community - it is a community-based service," he continued.
"All the necessary back-up professionals will be there to help people.
"The thinking behind this initiative is that the healthcare is being brought to the individual rather than the individual having to go and find the health care."
